ADHESIVES – VARNISHES – PRINTING INKS

UV technologies broaden the performance spectrum of pressure sensitive adhesives

Pressure sensitive adhesives for high-performance applications
Modern pressure sensitive adhesives are used in a large variety of visible and invisible applications. Different technologies may be employed to make adhesive tapes, self-adhe-sive films and labels or medical products, depending on the requirements in each case. Alongside the traditional adhe-sives systems for high-performance applications, light-curing solutions are increasingly gaining ground in the market. Under its Duro-Tak UV brand, Henkel also offers a broad product portfolio of modified UV pressure sensitive adhesives, which make it possible to combine the benefits of classic hotmelts with those of solvent-based products.

Latently reactive adhesive films of Dispercoll® U: A new class of adhesives
Latently reactive adhesive films of semi-crystalline Dispercoll® U polyurethane polymer dispersions represent a new form of application for heat-activated polyurethane adhesives. These films are noted above all for their ease of handling and their good adhesion to many synthetic and natural substrates. The films are non-blocking, i.e. non-tacky, at room temperature, but convert to the tacky or contact-adhesive state when heated to > 50 °C. Heating triggers a crosslinking reaction that converts the initially thermoplastic polymer into an elastomer with high resistance properties.

DRIVES AND CONTROLS

All about Drives

Interview with Guido Lebbing, Managing Director, Engineering and R&D, Lebbing engineering consulting GmbH.
Which characteristics need to be taken into account regarding drives of web coating plants?
As the individual processes vary a great deal, and some of them are very complex, there is no blanket answer to this question. In fact it is necessary to project and optimize drives according to the specific requirements of each process.
